An Invitation
To: All Friends Residing in Kentucky and the Neighboring States
(and anywhere else!)
Dearest Friends,
Plans are under way for our annual Kentucky Bahá’í School at Lake Cumberland,
Kentucky Leadership Center.
Please set aside the dates of August 29 -
September 1, 2008 (Labor Day weekend) in anticipation of this exciting event!
We
are very excited and
fortunate that Ms. Erica Toussaint, a member of our National
Spiritual Assembly, will be teaching the adult course, "Creating a
Climate of Encouragement in These Times of Change," throughout the entire
weekend. She will also be presenting a session for the youth. Ms.
Toussaint is a very knowledgeable, inspirational, and much-sought-after
speaker and facilitator. This is the course description:
“When training and
encouragement are effective, a culture of growth is nourished in which the
believers see their duty to teach as a natural consequence of having
accepted Bahá'u'lláh…. In such a culture, teaching is the dominating passion
of the lives of the believers. Fear of failure finds no place. Mutual
support, commitment to learning, and appreciation of diversity of action are
the prevailing norms.
(The Universal House of
Justice, 2001-01-09, to the Conference of the Continental Boards of
Counsellors)
“In this deeply
text-based course, participants will focus on practical, daily
applications of the spiritual principles essential for unified and
loving interactions, as individuals, communities and institutions move
through the Five Year Plan processes, and experience the culture of change
characterized by an attitude of learning. Participants will take an
in-depth look at the way they view the world vs. the way that Bahá’u’lláh
guides us to see it. In a lively, laughter-filled atmosphere, we will
explore spiritually-based solutions to such challenging topics as justice,
forgiveness, dissension, criticism, true consultation, and the purpose of
tests.”
Special activities include a coffee house with Ms. Toussaint and our annual
infamous talent show. Also planned are exciting
children, pre-youth and youth class activities;
book store; seeker
classes; magnificent audio-visual productions by Tom Kimmerer; and morning
yoga.
To prepare our communities for more opportunities to use the arts, including
Ruhi activities, a special part of the school this year will be "Community
Building through the Arts." You will be invited upon arrival at KYBS to sign
up for one of the following groups: Singing, Chamber Music, Comedy, Dance,
Drama, Storytelling, or Visual Arts. During the school there will be time
to practice, and on Sunday night we will do our presentations. So be
thinking about what group you want to sign up for, and if you would like to
assist the group coordinator with ideas, etc., please contact the Registrar
The session opens on Friday evening with registration and fellowship. Participants are encouraged to arrive as early as possible so as to
settle in and be ready to begin with breakfast on Saturday
morning. The school will end after lunch on Monday.
Come and bring your
family, friends, and guests and enjoy spiritual fellowship in the great
outdoors.
